Balance is the ability to maintain the centre of mass within the base of support, allowing the body to perceive movement, orientation, direction and speed and to adapt posture automatically or voluntarily. Efficient postural stability is fundamental not only in daily life, but also in most sports disciplines, from archery to figure skating, from mountaineering to gymnastics, where body control in space is decisive.
