Objective criteria for Return to Play

Introduction

In the rehabilitative pathway, jump analysis is one of the most reliable tools to assess when and how an athlete is ready to return to the field. Strength, control, symmetry and load absorption capacity are parameters that classical functional tests (Single Leg CMJ, Triple Hop, single-leg Drop Jump) allow measuring objectively and repeatably. Particularly in recovery from ACL, ankle or hip injuries, comparing the contralateral limbs and monitoring progression throughout the pathway allows evidence-based clinical decisions, communicating clear results to athlete, coach and physician.

Assessing symmetry: Limb Symmetry Index (LSI) and neuromuscular control

Single Leg CMJ and Hop Test allow quantifying limb symmetry through the LSI. Optogait precisely measures flight and contact times, while GykoPro analyses the eccentric and concentric phases of the jump, providing objective criteria to guide progression and safe return.

Analysing reactivity: Reactive Strength Index (RSI) and landing quality

Drop Jump and single-leg reactive jumps allow assessing the RSI and load absorption capacity.

Integrating strength and stability: single-leg horizontal jump

The single-leg broad jump allows assessing horizontal force and stabilisation capacity. The integration
